New Girl premiered on Tuesday night and it didn’t disappoint! Zooey Deschanel comes off as is a quirky fun down to earth girl! She is known for her fun bright and boldly patterned wardrobe that she seems to wear on and off camera! She has this 50’s retro ladylike pin up vibe going on and I love it!! I wish I could pull these looks off every day but that would be a lot of work and shopping! I’ve been noticing a lot of the vintage ladylike style hitting the runways of fashion week in NY and London this year so I started shopping around for the look! Here are some of my favorite images of Zooey and some of the ladylike wardrobe I stumbled upon!
2014’s resort wear collections shown at Fashion Week New York from September 5-12th were amazing! I am loving the lady like feel of all the clothes for spring and the muted brights are an added touch that I’m looking forward to adding to my closet this spring! My hands down favorite collection had to be Jenny Packham I love that she paired everything with shiny metallic heeled oxfords with a pointed toe! It’s such a fresh take on the oxford I’m looking forward to seeing it hit stores sometime soon! I have to say she was my hands down favorite from the clothing to the shoes, makeup and hair! That messy big curly hair with the sweet little clips is a look I would love to try and achieve with my own hair! Though the makup was simple I think it still is my favorite because it’s fresh faced with flushed cheeks and natural lips!
My second favorite had to be J. Mendel, his collection is everything I’ve ever wanted to be able to pull off in every day life! It has a very mod feel to it with the thick straps around the shoulders and boxy shapes. I love the muted brights and I am looking forward to wearing them for spring! His fun geometric strappy heels seem to be having a major moment right now since I keep seeing similar styles everywhere!
A few of my other favorites were Monique Lhuillier with her stunning gowns pouty pink lips and slicked back hair!
Rebecca Minkoff with her fun prints and mix and match fabrics!
Tory Burch also had a bit of a mod look going on in her collection with a lot of fun colors and bold prints to spice things up!
And last but by no means least the amazing Zac Posen. His every girly style always makes me love his collections. Every dress feels like a whimsical princess gown!
I am completely lusting after this Elizabeth and James sweater I saw in Nordstrom today! How cute is the cloud with the lightening bolt? I am in love with it and have to have it!! To bad it’s $295 I’ll have to save up for it! In the meantime I’m listening to:
Cover Me Up by Jason Isbell
Stay At Home Mother by Sheryl Crowe
Even If It Breaks Your Heart by Eli Young Band
Helicopter by Branches
Love Will Remember by Selena Gomez
Oh My Darlin’ by Katie Herzig
Have a happy rest of your week!!!
Yesterday while organizing more of my things I stumbled upon my old horseback riding helmet. I had almost forgotten that I took lessons in college (I wasn’t the best!)but finding that helmet brought back so many fun memories. I use to always want to show up to my lesson in a long flowy dress, it always seemed so magical and romantic to ride a horse wearing an awesome pair of boots with a long dress blowing in the wind behind you! I never actually worked up the courage to show up to lessons in a dress mainly because I thought my teacher would think I was nuts and it also didn’t seem to safe considering I was a complete beginner and had no clue what I was doing! But one of these days I am going to have to find a way to do it and of course have someone there with a camera to capture the amazing moment. And since I’m clearly dreaming might as well have a soundtrack to dream to:
All This Time by Heartless Bastards (my favorite so of course they have to be in my dream soundtrack!)
Wagon Wheel by the Old Crow Medicine Show
Go To Sleep by The Avett Brothers
Shopping is an expensive hobby, of course it’s one that I love, but big or small purchases it all adds up in the end!! For us girls no longer in school the beginning of Fall no longer brings with it back to school shopping, so instead I like to go jump into Fall shopping! It’s time for sweaters, boots , scarfs and warm colors! Here are my top jump into Fall wish list must haves!!
Lucca Couture Corduroy Circle Skirt from Urban Outfitters!
I have it in the light blue jean from last year and I am obsessed with it so a corduroy one would be perfect for Fall!
Blackstone Cat Eyes Cropped Tee from Urban Outfitters
So I am aware that a cropped tee doesn’t exactly scream Fall but I am a cat lady at heart and this would be so fun to go out in!
Jeffrey Campbell Everly Bootie
I love these booties with the cut outs and gold heel detailing!
J Crew Leather Pixie Pant
How amazing are these? I’ve never had leather pants but I would definitely love to have this pair!
This cardigan is the perfect mix of preppy and relaxed!
Fall marks the beginning of the Holiday party season, and this dress would be perfect for a fun party!
This blue bag is an amazing color and an amazing shape, I would love to have this sitting in my closet!
The Labor Day sales were amazing! The best one by far was the Macy’s Coach sale…all Coach bags were 40% off it was like a full on blood bath in their trying to avoid pointy elbows, pushy girls and bags of clothing being used as weapons! But I was happy at the end of it having gotten the bag I wanted for Fall this year, the Legacy Flight Bag
And of course as soon as I heard about the sale I called up my sister and mother and they to had to have a bag! My mom and sis are two peas in a pod and both got the Madison Small Phoebe shoulder bag! My mom got the cranberry color due to my complaining that her entire purse collection lacks any sort of color! My sister got the same bag in Chestnut…
I also have this slight obsession with oxfords, I’m not sure why but they just get to me and every time I come across one I have to try it on! Well I’ve been searching for the perfect heeled oxford for Fall and I finally found it!! The Jeffrey Campbell Williams Oxford at Nordstrom!
And now that were going into September it feels like it’s time to start stocking up on warm essentials! I went into Forever 21 and boy do they have a mass selection of anything you could ever want polka dotted!!! I love me some polka dots so I was thrilled when I walked in! I obsessively bought this polka dot sweater
And this olive green parka is perfect for cool fall days!
And even thought this dress feels like summer I think I’ll be able to wear it this fall as well. since we live in southern California where it doesn’t really get cold
This bib necklace from Forever 21 will brighten up some of my fall wardrobe!! I can’t wait to bust out warm sweaters, boots and scarves!
Made By Hank is a wonderful bag designer who uses a lot of polka dots which I am obsessed with, so it’s only natural that I obsess over his bags. The best thing about his purses are that they are affordable so I never feel guilty if I buy one, plus I don’t ever feel like I have to save up for months just to get the one I’m coveting! His website is http://www.madebyhankshop.bigcartel.com
Here are some of my faves he has right now:
Foldover Crossbody Bag with handcut leather polka dots in Gold. $62
Vintage Lace Clutch with brown leather corners $30
Love the patterned print surprise waiting on the inside!
Shailene Woodley is one of those girls who comes off very sincere when she speaks. She’s bubbly and down to earth in interviews and on her hit show Secret Life of The American Teenager. She is the rock that holds that show together, she is the steadfast relatable character surrounded by a cheesy supporting cast. When I went and saw her movie The Descendants I found her character’s personality very relatable to my life (I can be very snarky)! I can’t wait to see her next movies “The Spectacular Now” and “White Bird” in 2013. Overtime she has gained more and more press and you see her out and about a lot. If I had to label her style it would be a mash up of retro vintage modern, and I love it. I personally can’t really pull off a lot of what she can but I do like to draw inspiration from her laid back retro vibe. She frequents my inspiration folders for wardrobe and shoot ideas.
One of my top five favorite shows is The Vampire Diaries. My favorite episode was when Caroline Forbes played by the amazing Candice Accola had to transition into being a vampire all without even knowing there where such things. Candice was phenomenal she had me on the edge of my seat holding my breath and trying not to cry. I began to fall in love with Caroline’s wardrobe on the show and by extension started noticing Candice Accola’s amazing red carpet looks and down to earth everyday wardrobe!
She also has a lot to say about music and I’ve discovered a lot of amazing bands through her like one of my favorites Givers. Not to mention that she herself is a singer, you should check out her stuff on youtube, my favorite song of hers is Yesterday Is Gone!
I recently moved into a bigger office space so as not to have to share one desk with two people which can be very crowded. I’ve been organizing my new desk and perusing online shops for cute quirky office supplies to decorate my space with! I came along quite a few special finds that I am in need of!
Like this amazing cat stapler for us crazy cat lady types! On that note I feel like I should also inform you that I do indeed bring my cat Teacup to work with me!
These vintage style scissors are super cute and a little bit industrial feeling!
Colorful Kate Spade note pads to jot down new ideas and to do lists!
I am in love with Anthropologie’s camera tape dispenser.
a vintage style magnifying glass, mostly for decoration or a paper weight, but would come in handy for those times you can’t seem to read the super small print!
How adorable is this super long note pad for writing down quick messages or jotting down passing ideas.
And of course a beautiful pencil for writing down all of my whimsical thoughts!
And a taste of my in office playlist for when the day gets a little to quiet for my taste:
Atlas Hands by Benjamin Francis Leftwich
Big Jet Plane by Angus & Julia Stone
Go Outside by The Cults
Get Some by Lykke Li
Don’t Wait by The Duke Spirit
